E2 Solutions integrated autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) from Locus Robotics with the HighJump warehouse management system for a national third-party logistics (3PL) company, so it could take on a fast-growing fulfillment client and scale up for peak season.

The Client

A national 3PL headquartered in the southwest US, offering warehousing, order fulfillment, transportation and packaging services to companies in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The Challenge

In 2018, a California craft supplies company was looking for a new 3PL. Its business was growing fast, especially in the holiday season, and staffing problems at its previous 3PL had delayed shipments by days or even weeks. The 3PL needed a fulfillment process that could flex for peak season, and selected E2 Solutions to build it.

The Solution

E2 integrated 20 Locus AMRs with the 3PL's HighJump WMS. When holiday orders picked up, 20 more robots were leased from Locus and added to the same integration. Once peak season ended, the extra robots went back, so the 3PL did not carry their cost or floor space year-round.

The Result

The 3PL handled the holiday surge without short-term hiring, and the system was built to scale again as orders grow.
